How Much Water Should You Drink? Get The Truth Here: Beyond H2O Bottled Water Facts

Your body requires at least 2 quarts of water a day. It must be pure and plain water, not caffeine-containing drinks or alcoholic beverages that just further the dehydration of your body.

You shoud drink water at regular intervals. Drinking water should become a personal a habit.

Beware, you should not rely on the thirst perception to recognize the urgency to drink water. As we grow older, we lose our thirst perception and fail to recognize that we are thirsty.

People who are overweight need to drink more water.

So a 180 pound person needs to drink 90 ounces of water daily. Remember, caffeine-containing beverages and alcoholic beverages (we should also mention milk here) - do not count as water and cannot replace the water needs of your body. Agian, they further dehydrate your body.

We also need to take an extra 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt a day.

That's right. Frequent cramps in the leg muscles are a sign of salt shortage in your body.

Our rule of thumb for salt intake is: 1/2 teaspoon of salt for every ten 8 ounce glasses of water (80 ounces) unless you normally eat salty foods of course.

You may be surprised to know that salt shortage can cause many health problems. Some doctors are saying that it can be the primary cause of asthma, allergies, hypertension, heart disease, mental disorders, and many more.

Hold the fort though. This does not mean you should take a lot of salt just because it is an essential substance! You should not increase your salt intake, unless you are keeping up with your required amount of water intake. You should also check with your attending physician about any diet changes.
